Prayer Note #25 — A Pastor’s Prayer for Sunday Morning Worship

Father, we gather today to worship you.  That is our identity not merely an action that we take.  We are the people who worship you, O blessed and singular Trinity.  Nurture that identity in us.  Enter our being as a people and as persons and by your Holy Spirit infuse that true identity deep within us.

Let us taste your goodness and so long for that transforming communion with you.  As every person steps out the doors of their homes to come here to worship, place an urgent longing for you in their minds and hearts.   I want and ask you for a gathering of worshipers who are inexorably drawn to your presence like iron to a powerful magnet.

Make your gathered people especially receptive to your word and particularly sensitive to your Spirit who speaks especially through your word.  Grant all of us a strong sense of encounter with you as we explore your Scripture’s power.  And like the swallows in the rafters of the temple, let us make our home there.

  1. 10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
    I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
    11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
    the LORD bestows favor and honor;
    no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.
    Psalm 84:10-12

    12 LORD Almighty,
    blessed is the one who trusts in you.

  2. Lord I long to be in your presence and among your people who also have experienced your greatness. Find pleasure in the sound of our chorus of gratitude. How magnificent would that sound be if it even came close to the praise you deserve. Only you have the Living Water that can cool us in the heat of trials and fill us with life when we are struggling.

  3. Lyrics to Hosanna, Praise is Rising by Paul Baloche and Brenton Brown-
    “Praise is rising, eyes are turning to you
    we turn to you
    hope is stirring, hearts are yearning for you
    we long for you
    when we see you we find strength to face the day
    in your presence all our fears are washed away, washed away
    Hosanna, hosanna
    You are the God who saves us, worthy of all our praises
    Hosanna, hosanna
    Come have your way among us
    We welcome you here Lord Jesus
    hear the sound of hearts returning to you
    we turn to you
    in your kingdom broken lives are made new
    you make all things new”
