Quotes of Note #5 — Baptism with the Holy Spirit

“I take it that that is abundantly clear — you cannot be a Christian without having the Holy Spirit in you.  But — and here is the point — I am asserting at the same time that you can be a believer, that you can have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you, and still not be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”  Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Joy Unspeakable: Power and Renewal in the Holy Spirit.  Wheaton, IL: Harold Shaw Publishers, 1984, pp. 22-23.

  1. Is it accurate to say that the Lord, by the Holy Spirit within us, transforms our character to be more like Him and by the Spirit upon, He empowers us to cooperate with Him to reveal Himself to the world and restore what is broken?

Like the moon in your picture, we have no power of our own, but the Holy Spirit’s power upon us, like the light of the sun reflecting off the moon, enables us to light up the darkness. In that way we are empowered for ministry.

Is it the case that a believer can be ‘baptized by the Holy Spirit’ numerous times to be able to do particular works that the Lord has for them?
