Prayer Note #44 — Longings

Lord Jesus, you are King and Lord.  There is life nowhere except in you.  Apart from you is the abyss, the nightmare, the acid fog that corrodes my flesh and my spirit and my life itself.

In you, Good Savior, is freshness.  In you is soothing sunshine and richness and life overflowing.  In you, Gracious Master, is purpose and meaning and truth, clarity and fulfillment of my very essence as a human being–image-bearer of God in the world.

Teach me to rest in your strong arms.  Show me how to cease my frantic struggling and to surrender myself to your wise, limitless sovereignty.  Be powerful in me, because I  am weak.  Grant me discernment to recognize the flow of your purposeful power and, in recognizing it, to follow it.  Grant that I might travel in the channels of your Holy Spirit’s resolute working, so that I might live and serve in cooperation and communion with him.

Let my faltering discipleship be a window into you glory and goodness.  Let my life be a poster for your redeeming victory.
