“I contend that the historicity [of the Gospels] does matter, and I do not see why we, who live nearly two thousand years later, should call into question an Event for which there were many eye-witnesses still living at the time when most of the New Testament was written. It is no ‘cunningly devised fable’ but an historic irruption of God into human history which gave birth to a young church so sturdy that the pagan world could not stifle or destroy it.”
J. B. Phillips, Ring of Truth: A Translator’s Testimony. New York: Macmillan Company, 1967, pages 40-41.
I am a husband, father, and grandfather. A small, town about fifteen miles west of Pittsburgh is home currently, though several other places have served that purpose before this. I maintain a YouTube channel of Bible teaching videos and a podcast of Bible teaching audio. I like to make things in my woodshop. I like taking photographs and use a lot of them in my blog posts. I go fishing in the local streams and lakes when I can. For thirty-nine years, I served as a pastor of churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.
