Quote of Note #226: Bearing Witness with Graciousness & Faithfulness

“As was in many of the most religious people of Jesus’ day, it is possible to become fully versed in a theological tradition or excel in theological education and still have a hardened heart that never truly surrendered to the Word of God.

“Today, we need not look far to find examples of men boasting a high level of theological education whose words lack grace and are often downright spiteful toward others online, in their preaching, or in their writing. There are also others who greatly emphasize kindness and compassion while eliminating the uniqueness of Christ’s salvation from their message or even practicing syncretism. Having all the ‘right answers’ is insufficient if it is not matched in loving attitudes and actions toward God and others (Mt. 23:1-3), and the fullness of love must be centered in the grace and truth that comes only through Jesus Christ (Jas. 1:17).”
