A Prayer
(Drawn from Colossians 3:12-14)
Lord, help me to remember who I am,
that I am one of those whom you have drawn to yourself
and gathered up in your hands.
I am yours,
set apart by your love for me,
a love which I have not earned
and do not deserve.
Let my character be shaped by your love and grace.
And so, grant that this generous love of yours
might be displayed in me
through deep compassion and kindness
toward all people.
Keep me humble
and take away any desire in me to impose my will on others.
Fill me with patience
in the midst of the turmoil of this troubled world.
Help me to keep in mind how gracious and forgiving you have been
toward me. And so,
enable me to bear with those who are difficult
and make me gracious
even toward those who mistreat me.
Grant that I might be a living embodiment
of Christ’s saving, healing, redeeming love
in this broken world.
Amen.
