“The People of the Presence of God: a Christmas Sermon”
Human beings are made for God. That isn’t a widely acknowledged truth. It certainly isn’t the mainstream view in Western culture, but it’s the truth just the same. We’re designed for relationship with God, and that truth is nowhere more clearly expressed than in the Incarnation–when the Son of God became man in the birth of Jesus Christ. It was in the Incarnation that God aggressively restores the koinonia — the deep communion between God and his people — for which we were created. Without that koinonia we cannot live full and authentically human lives, though ironically and tragically we human beings in our fallenness are all too prone to flee from the very communion with God for which we were designed. The good news — the Good News — is that our God just won’t let us get away.
