“We may do the same works that Jesus did (John 14:12) in the same way that he did them – as a human being filled with the Holy Spirit, listening to the Father and acting in obedience.”
Long, Stokes, & Strickler, Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit, p. 113.

As we saw in the Sermon #38–Our God of Power: Jesus–Man of Power, the empowered ministry that Jesus engaged in during his earthly ministry was not the result of his being the Eternal Son of God but rather the result of his being a Holy Spirit empowered human being. He had emptied himself of his divine prerogatives. Then at his baptism, the Holy Spirit descended and filled him. He stands now as our model of the redeemed and empowered human life all of God’s people are invited to live. In the two passages from this sermon draws, we see the promise that Jesus offers all of his disciples — ancient and modern — to equip and empower them to follow in his pioneering footsteps.
